Who is Dr. Rae?

Dr. Rachel "Rae" Stout is a leading audiologist renowned for her pioneering use of low-gain programmed digital hearing devices to address auditory processing, sensitivity, and tolerance issues. Holding audiology licenses in most of the U.S., Dr. Stout's academic journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park, where she graduated Magna cum Laude in 1997. She earned her Master’s degree from George Washington University in 1999 and completed her doctorate at the Arizona School of Health Sciences at AT Still University in 2006. Dr. Stout's commitment to learning continued with post-doctoral coursework at Gallaudet University in Hearing Sciences and Speech Language Pathology, alongside completing an American Sign Language Interpreting program at American River College.

Identified as autistic with ADHD, Dr. Stout's personal experiences with sensory and auditory processing challenges have deeply informed her professional path and led to her interest in American Sign Language and Cued Speech. To date, she has successfully treated over 3,000 patients, including children and adults with auditory processing disorders, autism, ADHD, dyslexia, tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia, focusing on auditory sensitivity and filtering difficulties. Dr. Stout is a strong advocate for Collaborative Partnership and believes firmly in patients' rights to control their own auditory experience, emphasizing that it is, after all, their body.

To extend her reach and provide access to her specialized services for patients in remote or underserved areas, Dr. Stout often employs virtual methodologies. This innovative approach ensures that individuals facing auditory challenges who reside in locations with limited access to medical interventions can still benefit from her expertise.
